It is likely the contents of the recovery partition are largely intact on all devices only hardware access is FUBAR. They were my first attempts so it was a learning through mostly trial and error process. I just can't figure out what happened to the first two that they will no longer boot into recovery, if they ever would. It will boot into Recovery, so I do know how to do it. I have a 3rd, stock Fire 5th Gen, which I haven't messed with other than to load Google Play store. Neither ADB or Fastboot command line commands will reboot them into recovery, only normal and fastboot. The second is stuck in continuous reboot, Fire, optimizing, reboot, repeat. I was able to fix one of them and load the Nexus ROM, so it's working, but I still can't boot into recovery, only fastboot and XPA. Holding down the other switch boots into Factory XPA, which only lasts a few seconds before it continues to normal boot. Holding down one of the switches boots into fastboot, but you don't get the fastboot script on the screen. Now neither of them will boot into recovery mode. I have 2 Fire 5th Gens which I rooted then tried to flash with Flashfire. I've been working this for 2 weeks and have tried a couple of hundred times.
